As part of our Personal Development and Mutual Understanding programme we will be focusing over the next few weeks on developing an increased understanding and appreciation of the physical, social and cultural differences within society and encouraging children to celebrate these differences.
To launch our programme, we are having an Inclusion and Diversity Day on Friday 29th April and are asking children to come into school in different coloured T shirts to represent and celebrate our schools’ inclusive ethos. (Please do not go to any expense for this occasion.)
As part of the programme we will be encouraging all pupils to demonstrate our TREK values of Truth, Respect, Empathy and Kindness, both to one another and the wider community.
We would really appreciate your support in this initiative by encouraging your child over the next two weeks to perform random acts of kindness whenever possible which can then be shared and celebrated in school. We have linked with the charity UNICEF for our TREK programme to support the Ukrainian humanitarian appeal and are asking parents, grandparents and friends of our school community to give to this charity through either a donation directly to school on 29th April, sent in with your child, or through logging on to the Just Giving page, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/north-belfast-schools
This donation is completely voluntary and there is no obligation to pay it.
Schools throughout Northern Ireland are involved in promoting and celebrating inclusivity and diversity this month and we hope you as parents will encourage your child to perform as many random acts of kindness as they can. Please encourage your child, as we begin our TREK journey, to understand better what it is like to ‘walk in other people’s shoes’ and be assured all proceeds donated will go directly to UNICEF to support the humanitarian work in Ukraine.
